Inspired by classic Chicago Italian beef joints like Buona Beef. If you don't dip it, you're a flavorless coward.
Ingredients
- • 1 beef chuck or bottom round roast
- • Italian beef seasoning (garlic, oregano, basil, black pepper, or a store-bought seasoning packet)
- • Beef broth
- • Italian rolls
- • Giardiniera
- • Bell peppers, sliced
Steps
- 1.Season the roast and slow-cook (oven, slow cooker, or braise) in beef broth with Italian seasoning until fork-tender.
- 2.Let the meat rest, then slice it as thin as you possibly can, ideally with a slicer.
- 3.Return the sliced beef to the seasoned broth (the jus) to soak up flavor and stay juicy.
- 4.Griddle the sliced bell peppers until soft and lightly charred.
- 5.Pile the beef onto an Italian roll, top with griddled peppers and giardiniera.
- 6.Dip the whole sandwich into the jus before eating -- if you're not dipping it, you're a flavorless coward.
Notes
- • If you don't dip it, you're a flavorless coward.
