I love making Cubanos because they're so easy and fun to customize. Start with a loaf of Cuban, French, or Italian bread, butter, mustard, cheese, pork, pickles, and ham. Toast the bread without butter to keep it crispy. Mix butter and garlic, spread mustard on the other half, and build your sandwich with cheese, pork, ham, and pickles. Top with the buttered bread and cook until the cheese melts. Serve with chips and a cold drink for the perfect meal!

Ingredients

  • • 1 (1-pound) loaf Cuban, French, or Italian bread
  • • 2 Tbsp salted butter, softened
  • • 1 small clove garlic, crushed
  • • 2 Tbsp yellow mustard
  • • 8 oz Baby Swiss cheese, about 10 slices
  • • 1 lb shredded pork roast, heated through
  • • Sliced dill pickles
  • • 10 slices Honey Ham (Black Forest or similar)
  • • Miss Vickie's Spicy Dill potato chips, or favorite, for serving

Steps

  1. 1.Slice bread in half horizontally (and vertically, if using a skillet). Toast without butter — this keeps the bread from getting soggy from the pork and pickles.
  2. 2.Mix butter and garlic; spread on one half of the bread.
  3. 3.Spread mustard on the other half.
  4. 4.Build the sandwich: cheese, pulled pork, cheese, ham, remaining cheese, then dill pickles. Top with the buttered bread half.
  5. 5.Cook in a preheated skillet or panini press, pressing slightly, 5-8 minutes per side until cheese melts.
  6. 6.Serve with a pickle slice, chips, and a cold drink.
